Dreaming of Butterflies? – Leon Nacson

I continually get asked to explore symbols and their meaning and in my coming blogs I will do that. Always remember, it’s more important to explore the emotion than the symbol.

Unfortunately, the way our dreams are experienced, you need a symbol to create the emotion. This is better than what comes first, the chicken or the egg. What comes first the symbol or the emotion? I personally think it’s the emotion that creates a corresponding symbol in our dream to express itself. I’ll start with disusing butterflies because Miranda is so aligned to these beautiful insects, and the butterfly parable is featured in her wonderful book, Treasure Yourself.

Butterflies are a very interesting sight in dreams, they can symbolise metamorphosis. One day you are a grub and the next you’re an exquisite creature flitting through the air.

Do you see the entire metamorphosis from caterpillar to cocoon to butterfly? If you do, this may indicate a desire for a slow, logical and carefully planned transition.

Do you see the caterpillar and butterfly but no cocoon? This may suggest that you are happy to get on with change in your life.

Do you only see the butterfly? Perhaps you have no interest in the past and find the present a lot more exciting.

Butterflies have a short but brilliant life, which suggests quality in life rather than quantity.

The butterfly displays beauty. Do you recognise how beautiful you are even though you may come from humble beginnings?

If the butterfly lands on you or someone else in a dream, then that person may symbolise calm. Are you calm and relaxed or does the other person have a calm and relaxing influence on you?

This dream scenario may also suggest respect for yourself or the other person, i.e. you appreciate your own or their spiritual growth.

The classic symbol of butterfly is transformation. Ask yourself where you are going and where you have come from. What changes do you want to make in your life? Do you believe that you have to destroy the past to create something new?

A butterfly in a dream may indicate that it is time for introspection and silence so you can evaluate a situation in your life.

Of course, it may also signify a desire to be admired from a distance without being touched.

Lovely share, Leon. Thanks for that.

I especially like the way you make your readers introspect and look within by asking questions like the ones in this post. It is a great style of writing when the dreamer is the only one able to answer what’s the real meaning of a symbol for them.

First of all thanks for the wonderful read! It seems to me that when you look at this Beautiful creature of God’s (The Source) or which ever way people look at it. What an amazing, delicate, small in size but yet so Gigantic in Symbolizm for so many! To my recollection I have never dreamt of them; but wish I had after hearing these interpretations and I know they are different for everyone and how wonderful is that! The one that stands out to me the most is the Transformation!!! I love that. We all want to Evolve! Well atleast I think all people are aspiring for that; but I maybe a little presumptuous. Anyhow to Evolve is A Tranformation! It would be interesting if at the begining of life we are contiously aware that we to are like a grub and then spread our wings and fly and maybe our Evolution is measured by the colors in our Wings! So that when we reach an age where we dream of our own evolution through the form of a butterfly! We can see for ourselves while we are still on earth as to how we have or have not evolved! Our lives are also a short stay like the Butterfly, even though at times it seems long. It really isn’t! Okay I had a little too much Maple syrup with my waffle! So I hope this made sense! LOL
thanks again for a wonderful read!
