Go Beyond Your Comfort Zone – Doreen Virtue

When one door of happiness closes; another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” – Helen Keller

Have you ever seen those glass-domed paperweights, the kind you shake to create snow flurries around little plastic people and houses? As you think about making your dreams a reality, you may feel your world shaking like the insides of that paperweight. I’m asking you to stretch your thoughts and faith a bit. It’s a little like starting a new exercise program, where your muscles feel sore at first.

Break your cocoon barriers, so you can transform from a caterpillar into a butterfly. How? By declaring complete responsibility for being in your cocoon, and total responsibility for leaving. We become trapped when we avoid taking responsibility for the conditions of our lives. We’re trapped further by blaming others for lack of fulfillment, success and happiness.

“Pity doesn’t pay the bills or buy a better house, car, or wardrobe!”

Carrie blamed her African-American heritage for her dismal finances. Ron blamed his out-of-control drinking on his abusive father. Jan blamed her unemployed husband for her shoddy living conditions. Aaron blamed his young children for costing him so much money that he was afraid to change jobs for fear of financial loss.

By blaming other people, Carrie, Ron, Jan and Aaron avoided taking charge of their present-day problems. Many people blame others instead of shouldering the responsibility to change their lives. Blamers are even pitied for being poor victims of circumstances.

But does this pity feel good? Is it enough to sustain you or fulfill you? Pity doesn’t pay the bills or buy a better house, car, or wardrobe! If you don’t like something in your life, only one person can change it: YOU!

Once you have exposed yourself to the clear, bright light of accepting responsibility for your positive for your positive and negative choices, you can progress and choose better next time. Since no other person is to blame for your present or past life, then no once can stop you from changing your life for the better.
