The Question of Surrender – Doreen Virtue

Any person who has read about spirituality, recovery, or religion has encountered the word surrender. It means to let go of agendas and judgments about what life “should” look like or be like, and to instead accept life on life’s terms. Surrender also means asking for help from a spiritual higher power, like angels or archangels, and not making decisions without first consulting this source.

The practice of surrendering everything to Spirit does create positive outcomes for several reasons:

  • There are very real and powerful spiritual forces that can intervene when we ask for help. The Law of Free Will means that our inner guides and angels cannot help us unless we specifically ask for assistance.
  • Surrendering makes us relax, and thus allows us to better hear our intuition. We find that we can get honest with ourselves about what we really believe and want, and then follow this inner wisdom. A relaxed state also allows creative solutions to bubble up from the subconscious, and into conscious awareness.
  • Surrendering triggers an ideal emotional state for creating cooperative relationships. Your faith and hope in trusting spiritual intervention makes for a loving and appealing personality that attracts other people. Studies show that the most attractive personality style, to men and women alike, is a warm, relaxed and confident persona.
